Archives for the month of: September, 2013

articmThis month’s album took me a while to settle on. Since I was still in Morocco until the 12th I didn’t really start listening to music again till after I’d arrived back in the UK. Once again this month I have been listening to old music, rather than trying to hunt down new artists. I first started re-listening to the Artic Monkeys’ album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not after my second shift back at work, when the locals got a little tipsy and used all credits on the Jukebox to play any Artic Monkeys record available. I haven’t listened to Artic Monkeys’ much in the recent years but just in the past two weeks I have rediscovered how much I like them and their sound. I am going to dedicate some time listening to their latest album, AM this week as I settle back into Uni life, I am a big fan of the album’s first track Do I Wanna Know?. So who know’s maybe I’ll be listening to Artic Monkeys for two months solid…

12This post won’t be as dramatic as it sounds. Though it is the beginning of an end, it is also the beginning of a whole new chapter of my life. Today I start my final year of university. As of today I am now working towards my masters degree. I could have graduated this summer, but when I applied for university I was told that doing Engineering, it made sense for me to do a straight masters. So here I am, three years completed and facing the final hurdle. Time to get serious. Not just about uni work but also about a whole other host of life questions. After studying engineering for three years I am still not sure if it is the career for me. But I need to decide soon, as I need to begin applying for grad schemes and post graduate jobs pretty sharpish. This year I am living with my two best friends from my course so hopefully the year won’t be all work and we will get a chance to have some fun too. We are currently in the process of trying to get our house in order and functioning in a way that suits us.  Once it is finished I am excited to share some photos of how it has turned out with you.

The photo is from the last time I was facing a big change in my life. Here we are having just finished our time at sixth form, getting ready to move on to University and other things (to help you out I am the second in from the left in the bottom row, I had blonde hair back then). I can’t believe it has been over three years since this photo was taken and some of the group have already graduated and are doing other things. But now it is time for me to put my head down and focus on this last year, better get to lectures!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Today I have posted my final post about my time spent in Morocco. I loved the time I spent there and I encourage everyone to pay the country a visit. I hope I get a chance to go back and visit other towns and cities I didn’t get a chance to see and also to revisit some of the places I did. Now I am back in the UK and can only dream about my next potential holiday destinations. I am thinking maybe some city breaks, a surfing trip with one of my best friends and a relaxing week spent at the Italian lakes. Sadly, I have to fund all of these trips that I want to take, so it is back to work to save up for the next trip. Tonight is my housemate’s birthday so we are having a chilled dinner in, with chocolate truffles that we have made (a hint at a future post maybe) and plenty of wine. I hope you all have a niceweekend!

I think my favourite past time is shopping. Its one that I really need to work on and limit myself to how often I go, but whilst in Marrakech I couldn’t leave without trying some shopping the Moroccan way, in the Souks. We found an entrance and dove in, remembering to keep a memory of any turnings we took as we wandered by shoes, leather bags, wood work, tagines and crockery piled high, Moroccan lamps, carpets, spices, antique stalls, the list could go on forever. It was a maze, with people calling you into the shops as you went past, each one ready to offer you a good price. We were both very restrained and focused on only buying the items we had set out to get, mainly gifts for our families at home, though I did end up treating myself to a pair of little leather shoes and my boyfriend bought a wooden travelling chess set so he can continue to beat me at chess no matter where we are.
