OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Whilst we were in Marrakech I wanted to make sure that we managed to fit in a day trip to the Atlas Mountains. But not really knowing how to go about it we asked our Riad manager, who kindly arranged the whole thing for us, so we didn’t have to go the through the ordeal of trying to select which excursion company to go with (I am awful at making decisions so this would have been very stressful). We were picked up from our Riad in the morning and taken to the mini bus which drove us up into the Atlas. We made a few short stops on our trip out and as I was having fun taking photos I have broken the day down into smaller posts, one for each stop. That way I thought I could share more photos and information about what we did, without the post becoming insanely long and over run with photos.

So… after driving for a little while we made our first stop at some medicinal gardens, where we were told about the different herbs and their uses as remedies for common medical problems. Here we were also able to see the process of making Argan oil, which is done by hand. The woman first crack open the nut and extract the Argan kernel that they then crush in their special stone devices. We are then able to buy Argan oil and use it to keep our skin soft and our hair in lovely condition. At the gardens they also had little rooms where you were able to sample and then buy the different products and herbs that they made/grew on site. It was very interesting to learn about all the herbs though by the time we left i had sampled so many different oils, soaps and scents that I was a little over powered and a little worried about burning being coated in all that oil! So we hopped back into the mini bus and drove onto our next stop…
