Since moving into our new house we haven’t really experimented much with our oven. It is a gas oven, but instead of lighting at the back of the oven and heating the whole thing, you light it at the front (with a lighter as the sparker has gone) and it proceeds to heat up a metal plate fitted at the bottom. It’s very odd and will definitely take some getting used to! In a bid to understand the oven, my housemate and I decided to whip a batch of cookies (which were quickly followed by a second batch!). I saw this cookie recipe on Call Me Cupcake!, a baking blog I am quickly becoming obsessed with (I want to try to perfect her rainbow cake). The recipe uses Dulce de Leche, which we were worried we wouldn’t be able to buy and so spent time looking up ways to make it, boiling a tin of condensed milk seemed the easiest method, but then in Sainsburys we found Carnation Cook with Caramel which according to Carnation’s website (yes I googled this in Sainsburys) is ready to go Dulce de Leche which was brilliant as being lazy busy students we didn’t fancy making our own. The next morning we made our cookies and as I said a second batch quickly followed as these were just so tasty! And they are very quick to do, we managed to fit baking ours in to a gap between lectures, so you can definitely whip them up this weekend. We currently have a bit of a cookie obsession going on. So much so that just last night, we baked another two varieties of cookies, which I will share with you next week. Have a good weekend!
