Today marks the beginning of lent. Last year I decided to give up fizzy drinks for lunch since my consumption of them averaged at least a can a day. It was a tough forty days where I realised how addicted to them I was, for the first week I suffered from caffeine withdrawal symptoms, the headaches were awful! Sadly since lent last year has ended I have gone back to enjoying fizzy drinks freely although can now go some days without them. Despite them definitely being a habit I need to ultimately kick, this year I have decided to target my main addiction. Shopping. Until Easter I am limiting myself to only buying the essentials, food, toiletries etc. So it is goodbye to Topshop, ASOS, Urban Outfitters and all the other stores I frequent with my dwindling bank balance. I am not even going to allow myself to buy any new make up (I have a habit of picking up a nail polish or two every time I enter Boots), which shouldn’t be too bad since I recently replaced all my make up, it all ran out at once! This is going to be a tough month but hopefully if I take it a day at a time, ignoring all the emails I receive from shops (it ranges from four to about ten a day depending on the promotions), I will make it through the month and save myself some money. I think I will also spend this month going through my wardrobe and getting rid of items that I really don’t need anymore either by selling them or donating them. Whatever you have decided to give up for lent, good luck!

After my exams finished I decided to treat myself to a little retail therapy, both in London and online. I have been re-watching Sex and the City recently and think I am subconsciously trying to channel Carrie Bradshaw given some of my recent purchases. I bought a cameo patterned mid-length skirt and some pointy skinny heels from ASOS, which I love though I am unsure if I can pull them off. I think they seem too grown up, despite being nearly 22 and only having five months left as a university student! One of my favourite purchases from London was a black top (I told you I had a thing for black tops!), which is photographed above. It features a faux leather panel and mesh detailing, I can’t wait to wear it, though haven’t yet had an excuse to! There are also a few items that I wanted to buy in London that sadly the stores didn’t have in my size whilst we were there so I am going to order them this week and will be sure to share them with you when they arrive.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis weekend I am heading home to see my boyfriend and my family. I am driving back tonight in order to miss the Friday night rush hour on the motorways. So while I wait for the time to pass I thought I would share with you the items that I am taking home with me. I am currently trying to get better at packing light, since I am away for New Years and am only allowed to take carry-on luggage. I have tried to plan my outfits around what I have planned; tonight when I get home we are going to try to catch a film at the cinema, tomorrow I am having a catch up with my best friend who is also home for the weekend, before going to the pub in the evening and then Sunday will hopefully be a lazy day before I have to return back to uni in the evening. In order to keep things easy I have based each outfit either around my high-waisted black jeans or my black leggings. I have packed several nice going out tops that can either be worn in the day or the evening, along with a few pieces of jewellery to complete the outfit. A big knit is essential this time of year as the weather has turned so cold, with a very bitter wind blowing pretty much constantly. Along with my make up I am also taking home a few essential hair products such as hair spray and some texture spray and my perfume. While my bag currently seems very light I know that I will no doubt end up chucking in a couple of casual tops, more toiletries and various other things that catch my eye. I am also debating taking some uni work home with me, as I really should do some work, the iPad is ready to pack but I feel I should take some folders of notes too. One thing I will be sure to pack is my camera, my big scarf and my new check coat. After much debating I decided to buy the check coat from Zara which I featured on my Winter Coat post and I am so pleased with my decision I love it. Well I had best go check I have everything packed and ready to go, I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Here is what I am travelling in… I know a lot of people say to avoid taking selfies in the mirror but it has worked for the Hot Milk girls so I thought why not, besides it’s too cold to stand outside and take photos today. Maybe I will do a proper outfit post soon…
